On the occasion of the expansion of The Virginia Steele Scott Galleries of American Art, The Huntington is publishing the first book spotlighting its American art collections.
One of the world's great cultural and research centers, The Huntington, located in San Marino, California, is home to a remarkable library, art collection, and botanical gardens. Until now, no book has been dedicated to featuring the institution's important collection of American art from Colonial times to the last quarter of the twentieth century. Coinciding with the American gallery's thirtieth anniversary, this innovatively designed book features paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, and works on paper connected through compelling visual juxtapositions to tell the story of American art in microcosm. Accompanied by thoughtful historical essays, American Made celebrates a collection that has grown from an inaugural gift of fifty paintings to more than 12,000 objects, making The Huntington one of the finest repositories of American art in the country. The book makes an excellent holiday gift for moms, gardeners or bibliophiles.
